新しいスタッフが加入しました！San Diego出身です

こんにちは。経営支援部の石原です。

スタッフ紹介も４人目となりました。今回ご紹介するのは、グローバル事業部に加入したアメリカ出身のシンシアです。引き続きインタビュー形式でご紹介します。

■Where are you from? (city name and country)　Please tell us about the good points of your city.　

I’m from San Diego, California in the United States. The city of San Diego sits right between the ocean and the desert, making it possible to watch the sunset on the beach before driving east into the desert for some stargazing. The weather is always sunny, and the views are beautiful!

■出身地はどこですか（都市名と国名）出身地の良いところを教えてください。

私は、アメリカのカリフォルニア州サンディエゴ出身です。サンディエゴは海と砂漠に挟まれた街なので、ビーチで夕日を眺めた後、東へドライブして砂漠の星空を眺めることも可能です。天気はいつも晴れで、美しい景色を見ることができます！

■Where do you recommend in your home country?

The US is a very large country with many different regions and climates. I don’t think you could ever go wrong visiting one of the numerous national parks, such as Yosemite, Yellowstone, or the Grand Canyon! I recommend taking a road trip to enjoy the views along the way as well.

■アメリカのオススメはスポットはどこですか？

アメリカは広いので、様々な地域や気候があります。ヨセミテ、イエローストーン、グランドキャニオンなど、数多くある国立公園を訪れれば、間違いないと思います！ 道中の景色も楽しめるドライブ旅行もおすすめです。

■What are your interests or hobbies?

I really enjoy reading! I also love watching movies and try to watch movies from all around the world. In fact, it was my admiration of Dostoyevsky’s books and Tarkovsky’s films that motivated me to study Russian in college (unfortunately I was not very good at it). I also enjoy discovering new cafes and like to spend weekends trying new ones with friends.

■興味や関心のあることは何ですか？

読書がとても好きです！ また、映画を見るのも大好きで、世界中の映画を見るようにしています。実は、ドストエフスキーの本とタルコフスキーの映画に憧れて、大学でロシア語を勉強する気になりました（残念ながらあまり成績は良くありませんでしたが）。また、新しいカフェを見つけるのが好きで、週末は友人と新しいカフェを開拓しています。

■What is the weirdest thing for you in Japan?

Not exactly weird per se, but it will always amaze me that you can leave your bag at the table of a restaurant or café while you get up to order without it being stolen. I still can’t help but feel a little uneasy when I leave my stuff behind.

■日本に来て変だと思ったことは何ですか？

変というか、レストランやカフェのテーブルにバッグを置いたまま、注文するため席を立っても盗まれないということに、いつも驚きます。今でも荷物を置いて離れるのは、ちょっと不安になってしまいます。

■Where would you like to visit in Japan?

There are many places I’d like to visit but I hope to be able to go to Aomori someday since it was where my grandfather was born, and its forests look beautiful. Since most trees in California are evergreen trees, they don’t change color like the trees here and they’re not nearly as vibrant a green, so I’d like to explore more of Japan’s natural scenery!

■日本のどこを訪れてみたいですか？

行ってみたいところはたくさんありますが、青森は祖父の出身地でもあり、森もきれいなので、いつか行けたらいいなと思います。カリフォルニアの木は常緑樹が多いので、こちらの木のように色が変わることはなく、鮮やかな緑も少ないので、日本の自然の風景をもっと見てみたいですね！

■How do you feel about working in Japan?

I’m very excited to be working in Japan! There are a lot of fun things to do and as someone from the car-heavy United States, the public transportation is very convenient. I’m also able to be close to family and friends!

■日本で働くことについてどう思いますか？

日本で働けることがとても楽しみです！ 楽しいことがたくさんあるし、車生活のアメリカから来た私にとっては、公共交通機関がとても便利です。家族や友人の近くにいることもできますしね！

■What did you study at the university?

As an undergraduate, I studied Russian and Japanese. I then went to graduate school for my master’s in East Asian Studies. My research focused on the ways in which Zainichi Koreans understood and formed their identity, especially within Japanese education.

■大学では何を勉強しましたか？

学部では、ロシア語と日本語を学びました。その後、大学院で東アジアの研究を専攻し、修士号を取得しました。私の研究は、在日コリアンが自分たちのアイデンティティを理解し、形成する方法、特に日本の教育現場でのあり方に焦点を当てたものでした。

■What are your thoughts after working few weeks at EXJ?

The time has gone by unbelievably fast! I’m very grateful to everyone for being so kind and welcoming. I may need help as I get used to the work here, but everyone has made it very comfortable to reach out when I need it.

■EXJでの数週間を振り返ってみて感想は？

時間が経つのが信じられないくらい早かったです！ みなさんがとても親切に迎えてくださるので、とても感謝しています。これから仕事に慣れるまで、何かとお世話になることもあると思いますが、みなさんが声をかけてくださるので、とても安心しています。
